1. CSS Frameworks: Make the Right Choice by Kevin Yank

What CSS Frameworks do is that it gives a solid foundation for building your projects while aiming to cut down on development time. It enables you the opportunity to make your site more pleasing and it helps eliminate the cross browser compatibility issues with a function called CSS reset. CSS Frameworks have solid grids as part of its interface that supports in the creation of layouts. Different frameworks are better for different types of designs and for different designers.

Some CSS frameworks give more control over the design but offer structure for typography while others offer structure for both the overall layout and individual design elements.

2. JavaScript: The Good Parts by Doug Crockford

In this video, Doug Crockford points out the good and bad points of using JavaScript in when doing website designs. JavaScript excels as a client side browser-based programming language because any code written is delivered along with your web pages and the scripts that you wrote run from within the users’ browser. This programming language is an excellent solution that can be used for implementing neat features in a web design but be careful because JavaScript can also harm your websites performance. JavaScript can be used to change the appearance of the users screen after the page has been sent by the server which allows it to create impressive dynamic image effects.

3. Searching User Interfaces by Marti Hearst

The role of search user interfaces is to aid its users in the expression of their information needs, in the formulation of their queries, in the understanding of their search results and in keeping track of the progress of their information seeking efforts. Always remember to keep the interface simple because when people read text, they focus on the task. User interfaces must contain few distractions for it to be a more usable interface. Since most of those who engage with the web use the search function, the interface design must be understandable and appealing to a wide variety of users that is applied to an enormous variety of information needs.

New ideas and possibilities are never impossible in the world of IT because IT Professionals, whether new or old, are always filled with insights and engage in strategic thinking. Our design inspirations have to be built around the standards of the web and should pursue best practices like accessible code and offering user-friendly URL’s.

In this video, the FOWD Conference talked about the future of web design. Website development has always anticipated faster access speeds, detailed multimedia and development in design standards and the tools used in order to meet the said standards. The desires of IT Professionals have always been to exceed their reach because they want to be known through their contribution to the industry. One example of web design is Google’s Chrome browser that will have compatibility tools to be able to support HTML5 in the future. Information Technology is constantly evolving and gaining new ideas that widens the scope and creates new possibilities for new ideas.

6. A More Tangled Web by Eric Meyer

Eric Meyer gave an insight on the proposed completion date of HTML5. There is no exact launch date yet because as stated in the video, 2022, is still a long wait before we get to use this new and upcoming standard in web design. HTML5 is an upgrade to HTML that will standardize and fix problems that occur in HTML. I, myself, witnessed a demonstration of HTML5 in the Google DevFest and it did not disappoint. HTML5 welcomes back the return of browser innovation through new layout elements, updated web forms and dynamic graphics capabilities. It is like having an online Adobe Photoshop on the web.
